This is Our Time

This is a signed, professionally printed giclée print on heavyweight fine art paper of my original, surreal pen illustration featuring Rochdale Town Hall’s clock tower. Titled This is Our Time, the print measures approximately 8 x 10 inches.

Once upon a time during one of my many wanders of Rochdale town centre, the idea for this artwork was born. I was strolling down The Esplanade from Touchstones Gallery when I suddenly realised that I’d forgotton to put my watch on. Oops. No worries though, the Town Hall clock is in sight and voila, there is the time! The Town Hall clock tower became my substitute wristwatch. And that was when an image of a giant arm emerging from behind the clock tower appeared in my head.

Later on, whilst sketching it out, the title ‘This is our time’ popped up. It felt right. The Town Hall clock is part of our town – it is literally our time – and along with that, the title carries a sense of optimism for the future. There’s no denying that we’ve all been served some pretty difficult challenges of late, but keeping positive about the future is something we can all still practice everyday. Daisies are a symbol for hope and rebirth, so felt like an appropriate addition that fit the shape well. And also, who doesn’t like daisies? They’re such a happy flower.
