It’s getting to the time of year when we all begin to realise that summer really wasn’t that bad after-all. Waking up in a cosy duvet wrap isn’t all that practical when the rest of the house feels like a giant refrigerator. The days are starting to feel shorter, the weather is looking wetter, the supermarkets are selling Christmas decorations… Dear summertime, I’m sorry, I’ll take you back now.

Thankfully despite all its wintry reminders, I have to say that October does still have some perks. The trees are beginning to switch into their beautiful autumnal mode. Crunchy leaves, radiant colours – they’re an absolute feast for the senses!

October also marks the annual return of an ever-growingly popular community art project – Inktober – and this year, I’m jumping onboard..

“One new drawing every day for 31 days”

Inktober has been ‘a thing’ since its creation in 2009 by artist Jake Parker. Since then, it’s really taken off, with participants joining the phenomenon every year from all corners of the world.

Practicing setting a drawing schedule and sticking to it will boost your productivity. Like any exercise, if you maintain a routine your body will become less likely to freak out and more likely to comply to your wishes.

Inktober is the perfect platform to kickstart your drawing routine and get those creative juices flowing. You don’t even need to worry about what to draw. Each day of the month is allocated a prompt wordwhich is yours to interpret as you wish!
