Welcome to historic Toad Lane in Rochdale. There aren’t many real toads hopping around here, but you’ll certainly find plenty of charm. Apparently this street used to be called “The Old Lane” which, when pronounced in the Lancashire dialect, sounded like “T’old Lane”.
The Cooperative Society was founded on Toad Lane in 1845 and is now home to the Pioneer’s Museum. It’s the building at the end of the street with the giant cup of tea painted on the gable-end.
Next door is The Baum – a pub celebrated for its choice of real ales and olde pub atmosphere.
