Inspired by Grant Wood’s iconic “American Gothic” painting. I’ve given my version a northern twist, swapping out the pitchfork for an umbrella. I’ve also evened out the heights of both characters.
It’s not the first time I’ve made a drawing based on another work of art. You should see my Mona Lisa. I do it because it gives me a deeper experience of how the original art was constructed. You’d be surprised at how much hidden detail comes to the surface when you study a painting millimetre by millimetre.
