Inspired by my visit to the launch of the What If We Tried exhibition at Touchstones Gallery in Rochdale, the Beholder Series aims to observe the unique connection between art and the viewer.
The What If We Tried exhibition saw hundreds of the Rochdale borough’s artworks displayed in a collage of frames upon frames, creating an almost overwhelming visual feast for the senses. I became very intrigued by visitors’ reactions to the artwork on display. With so many works on display, it was interesting to observe how each individual interacted with the art. Some attempted walking multiple loops, some zig-zagged across the gallery, others stood in the middle rotating on their heels.
This curated chaos highlighted to me that although visitors to a gallery are sharing the same space, they may not be sharing the same visual experience. This Beholder Series aims to observe this.
